I'm trying out Fedora 10 PR KDE Live spin. I typed 'yum install make', it asks me if I should proceed and I hit 'y'. It then tries several mirrors and fails:

I also got this in a dialog box on the desktop:

Also, how do I solve this manually?

OK, I have an i686 install, why is it looking at the x86_64 directory for the file?

Looks a bit funny if you indeed have i686.. but rpm isn't involved here, reassigning to yum.

I'm running a 64-bit kernel on a 32-bit userspace. Maybe that's the reason. For now, I've manually installed the make rpm from the mirror's i386 directory.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 10 development cycle.
Changing version to '10'.

I'm not sure what more data is  needed. It's fairly easy to reproduce:

In an i686 install, boot with a 64-bit kernel (compiled on a x86_64 install machine) and then try any of the rpm / yum update commands.

Okay, if that is the only way of triggering it then we can probably close this notabug. Running the 64bit kernel on an i686 install is, at least afaik, not supported.

If you want a 64bit install, run the 64bit install.

I guess running a 64-bit kernel on a 32-bit OS is now going to be a supported setting since the F11 release.

Would you still consider this isn't a bug?

Also, developers do test such scenarios.

 AFAIK the current solution is to change the configuration so that it look for x86_64 URLs on the 32bit live CD, etc. ... but, yeh, however we get there it'll work. For Fedora 11.
