Xorg log

Creating a clone of bug #525827: I'm seeing font corruptions on a Thinkpad T30 laptop:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500]

There's no xorg.conf on my system, I'm attaching Xorg.0.log and the output of dmesg.

Example of corrupted font

Fonts become more and more corrupted over time, starting a few seconds after login. Attachment is this text after an hour of running:

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ

`~!@#$%^&*()_+=-[]{}\|;:'",./<>?

Nicolas, please, file a separate bug with the same information attached.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

I haven't seen it lately with latest rawhide versions. I'll file a bug if it occurs again

Could you please upgrade xorg-x11-server, xorg-x11-drv-ati, mesa, and kernel with packages from koji, and retest? There was a merge of new upstream version of radeon driver in Rawhide, which might fix your problem.

Thank you

Comment 3 Matěj Cepl 2009-10-14 15:39:44 UTC
and please when you try to reproduce it, tell us what version of these packages you have installed, please.

Thank you again

Comment 4 Mathieu Chouquet-Stringer 2009-10-14 17:01:35 UTC
Upgraded the following packages:
kernel-firmware-2.6.31.4-80.fc12.noarch.rpm
kernel-headers-2.6.31.4-80.fc12.i686.rpm
kernel-PAE-2.6.31.4-80.fc12.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.13.0-0.10.20091006git457646d73.fc12.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-server-common-1.7.0-3.fc12.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-server-Xephyr-1.7.0-3.fc12.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-server-Xnest-1.7.0-3.fc12.i686.rpm
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.0-3.fc12.i686.rpm

Didn't touch mesa as the latest in koji is
mesa-7.6-0.13.fc12 ajax 2009-09-21 21:32:47

which I already have.

I'm rebooting, will let you know how it goes...

Comment 5 Mathieu Chouquet-Stringer 2009-10-14 22:00:26 UTC
Well I'm afraid to say I still see corruptions...

Comment 8 Mathieu Chouquet-Stringer 2009-10-14 22:22:30 UTC
There's one interesting behaviour when I change the font rendering options under the "Appearance Preferences" dialog box.

For instance, right now I have 'subpixel smoothing' enabled and in my gnome bar, the title entry for this firefox window is barely readable.

Now if I switch to 'Best shapes' (or any other), corruption disappears. But if I switch back to 'subpixel smoothing' it comes back up.

Well I guess it's not just a matter of font corruption: I just restarted the 'Appearance Preferences' program again and the background color of the app was all black...
