This was related to authentication. nautilus is authenticated, but there is no cross-process password cacheing, and the text view (and gedit which showed the same problem) are separate processes. Since text view and gedit doesn't handle auth callbacks they get auth-failed errors when opening the file. The strange thing about this case was that msw only had to press "ok" on the password dialog. If anon login was possible the dialog shouldn't even have poped up. *** Bug 85126 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** As commented in the dup. This needs to have some way to drop old authentications if you want to log in as a new user. Red Hat apologizes that these issues have not been resolved yet. We do want to make sure that no important bugs slip through the cracks. Red Hat Linux 7.3 and Red Hat Linux 9 are no longer supported by Red Hat, Inc. They are maintained by the Fedora Legacy project (http://www.fedoralegacy.org/) for security updates only. If this is a security issue, please reassign to the 'Fedora Legacy' product in bugzilla.
