Description Randy Barlow 2013-09-03 14:16:09 UTC
I previously used gnome-tweak-tool to change my window decorations away from the Gnome defaults. I went to gnome-tweak-tool to change them back, and I no longer see any option to change the window decorations. Apologies in advance if I'm thick headed, and the option is there and I'm not seeing it.

If there's a workaround to get my window decorations back to default, please let me know.

Thanks!

Comment 1 Maxwell Spangler 2013-09-05 04:24:29 UTC
If "no longer see any option to change the window decoration" means you don't have a "Windows" tab in Gnome Tweak Tool then you have the same problem as me, reported here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1004615

The work-around for this is to use dconf-editor and navigate to org->gnome->desktop->vm->preferences and adjust values manually. Google for more information.

On a system I updated from F17->F18->F19, I have the 'Windows' tab (which includes Windows focus mode among other settings) in the Tweak Tool - even for a brand new user.

On a system I installed F19 anew, I don't have the 'Windows' tab.

Comment 6 Brian Dudek 2013-12-18 07:37:22 UTC
I've been seeing this random type issue on several F19 boxes too with no 'Windows' but finally had time to spend with it.

1. install new F19 box
2. yum install gnome-tweak-tool
      this will yield: gnome-tweak-tool-3.8.1-2.fc19.noarch
from @update - this rev is the issue!!!
3. no 'Windows' tab seen
4. yum remove gnome-tweak-tool
5. yum install gnome-tweak-tool --disablerepo=*updates
     this will yield: gnome-tweak-tool-3.8.0-2.fc19.noarch
this is from the base and works as expected
6. 'Windows' tab is returned
now make the mouse focus "Sloppy" how I like it :)
7. yum update gnome-tweak-tool
    will update back to: gnome-tweak-tool-3.8.1-2.fc19.noarch
8. 'Windows' tab is gone again but "Sloppy" still works.
9. now for fun: 'yum downgrade gnome-tweak-tool'
10. 'Windows' is back

11. I tried deleting in dconf/user file with not luck - the issue is the update 3.8.1

[dudek@nome ~]$ strace -e trace=open,write gnome-tweak-tool

open("/run/user/1000/dconf/user", O_RDWR|O_CREAT, 0600) = 11
open("/home/dudek/.config/dconf/user", O_RDONLY) = 11
open("/home/dudek/.local/share/recently-used.xbel.Y58O8W", O_RDWR|O_CREAT|O_EXCL, 0666) = 11

[dudek@nome ~]$ strings /home/dudek/.config/dconf/user | grep -i -E 'Window|focus|mode|Sloppy'
notebook-show-tabs-mode
modelines
swindow-state/
focus-mode
sloppy

Hope this helps someone!

Same issue here.

The upstream bug mentioned by Mohamed in comment #3 has a (yet unreviewed - who knows what the maintainer is busy with?) patch that Works For Me (TM) at comment #7 in the upstream bug - I now have my Window tab back and have reconfigured mouse focus policy successfully.

I would presume that a similar fix would also cure the leftover "GSettings missing key" messages:

[asuardi@xbox linux-3.14.0]$ gnome-tweak-tool
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.nautilus.desktop (key computer-icon-visible)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power (key lid-close-suspend-with-external-monitor)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power (key lid-close-battery-action)
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power (key lid-close-ac-action)

Comment 8 Randy Barlow 2014-04-02 15:15:19 UTC
For the record, this seems to be fixed in Fedora 20.

Comment 9 Alessandro Suardi 2014-04-02 15:21:52 UTC
Thanks Randy - good to know. Given how F21 has a longer release cycle than it used to be, I'll likely break my current habit of upgrading at odd releases and plan an upgrade to F20 by end of April...

Comment 10 Maxwell Spangler 2014-04-03 02:26:54 UTC
I don't have this problem on Fedora 20 either. One of the many things that makes me really love F20. Thanks for everyone's hard work making things better!

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 22:17:22 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2015-02-18 11:26:12 UTC
Fedora 19 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-01-06. Fedora 19 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
