Description Bruce Reeler 2013-12-23 01:02:57 UTC
In ICG at: https://access.redhat.com/site/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/4/html-single/Installation_and_Configuration_Guide/index.html

Description of problem:
The kernel number in sections "13.3.1 Upgrading the Kernel" and "13.9. Validating the OpenStack Networking Installation", are outdated. For Neutron, to get netns working, the kernel version needs to be Kernel 2.6.32-431.1.2.el6.x86_64 , as per email from Arthur Berezin:
"We need to change OSP Kernel update doc to Kernel 2.6.32- 431.1.2 .el6.x86_64 as working kernel for Neutron".

So sections 13.3.1.and 13.9 need updating.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
In release 4.0

Actual results:
Kernel version currently in doc is 2.6.32-358.6.2.openstack.el6.x86_64

Expected results:
Kernel version should be 2.6.32-431.1.2.el6.x86_64

Additional info:
The following sentence in 13.3.1 step 1.1 no longer seems applicable, should be removed: "If the output includes the text openstack then the system already has a network namespaces enabled kernel."

Comment 2 Bruce Reeler 2014-01-17 04:59:08 UTC
Info below from an email I got from Arthur Berezin for the same bug in the GSG, so probably applicable here too:

"To summarize the long thread, RHEL 6.5 GA kernel 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 (with no 1.2.el6 minor update) does support netns, so kernel version should be 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 +higher.
The tool to check if the kernel supports net namespaces, iproute-2.6.32-130.el6ost.netns.2.x86_64 ( with netns as part of package's name) has to be installed."

Comment 3 Don Domingo 2014-01-22 01:24:24 UTC
Given BZ#1044078, we may have to remove the entire section after all. Adding as blocker.

Note that this BZ is for an RHEL7 and Icehouse, and that BZ#1044078 relates to RHEL6.5 and Havana.

Comment 4 Don Domingo 2014-01-23 05:34:01 UTC
The resolution of BZ#1044078 makes the issues herein moot IMHO. Refer to:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1044078#c3
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1044078#c4

Closing this bug as a duplicate of that BZ#1044078.
