iInstalling Fedora 20 Final iso from USB on a pre-existing Fedora maching that uses LVM and RAID 1. Error happened on main installation screen immediately following the language selection. cmdline: /usr/bin/python /sbin/anaconda cmdline_file: initrd=initrd.img inst.stage2=hd:LABEL=Fedora\x2020\x20x86_64 quiet BOOT_IMAGE=vmlinuz hashmarkername: anaconda kernel: 3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64 package: anaconda-20.25.15-1 product: Fedora reason: SystemError: error return without exception set release: Cannot get release name. version: 20
*** Bug 1061404 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
It happened on its own without user interaction on the next screen after selecting the language for a fresh install from DVD. cmdline: /usr/bin/python /sbin/anaconda cmdline_file: initrd=initrd.img inst.stage2=hd:LABEL=Fedora\x2020\x20x86_64 rd.live.check quiet BOOT_IMAGE=vmlinuz hashmarkername: anaconda kernel: 3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64 package: anaconda-20.25.15-1 product: Fedora reason: SystemError: error return without exception set release: Cannot get release name. version: 20
Moving this back to anaconda, as it's the same as bug#1058297.
All I can think is that this is a bug in Python itself, there just isn't anything that anaconda or yum is doing that could generate such an error. Reassigning.

Stylistic ST-6012 A sister unit installed Fedora 19 flawlessly Upon boot into anaconda, after the 2nd screen (with all the options: disks, software install, etc.) it crashes. cmdline: /usr/bin/python /sbin/anaconda cmdline_file: initrd=F20/x86_64/isolinux/initrd.img vnc headless shell sshd ksdevice=link lang=en_US keymap=us repo=nfs:vers=3:pickerel:/lake/fedora/mirrors/20/replica/releases/20/Fedora/x86_64/os BOOT_IMAGE=F20/x86_64/isolinux/vmlinuz hashmarkername: anaconda kernel: 3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64 package: anaconda-20.25.15-1 product: Fedora reason: SystemError: error return without exception set release: Cannot get release name. version: 20
Fujitsu Stylistic ST-6012 in substantially hands-off mode. Configuring via vnc. The hardware is known to work with Fedora 20 release DVD ... I've completed five installs so far. This crash has happened twice (this is the 2nd). The HDD is blank, the HDD has not yet been modified by anaconda. This is somehow a timing thing with anaconda. With 1204320 all that was required was a retry of the install and it worked. The timing was different somehow. Unify with 1204320 cmdline: /usr/bin/python /sbin/anaconda cmdline_file: initrd=F20/x86_64/isolinux/initrd.img vnc headless shell sshd ksdevice=link lang=en_US keymap=us repo=nfs:vers=3:pickerel:/lake/fedora/20/trees/Fedora-20-x86_64-DVD BOOT_IMAGE=F20/x86_64/isolinux/vmlinuz hashmarkername: anaconda kernel: 3.11.10-301.fc20.x86_64 package: anaconda-20.25.15-1 product: Fedora reason: SystemError: error return without exception set release: Cannot get release name. version: 20
This package has changed ownership in the Fedora Package Database. Reassigning to the new owner of this component.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '20'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
