Description Lubos Kocman 2014-01-27 17:25:35 UTC
Description of problem:

Hi seems like vpnc has not yet been build for epel7. Could you please do so?

I've tried to do a scratch-build from f20 branch against epel7 and so far it works well for me.

Additional.. I was able to load the F19 vpnc, vpnc-scripts, and NetworkManager-vpnc and they work on RHEL 7.0. They need to either be added to RHEL Supplementary or EPEL...

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=250462#c3

is the request to create epel-7 branch in fedora git, once that is done i can go ahead and commit/build

Comment 6 James Kirkland 2014-08-08 12:56:25 UTC
If that is the best way to build and maintain the required VPNC and NetworkManager RPMS in EPEL for the long term. I don't know if there are plans to re-add this to RHEL. I assume not. If that is the case then building them into EPEL for epel-7 is the next best option.

Comment 7 Huzaifa S. Sidhpurwala 2014-08-08 13:20:58 UTC
I think it makes sense to add it to epel-7. Removing it later if RHEL includes it could be easy :)

I did a scratch build of the version used in fedora-21 currently and the build worked. If anyone has some time, a quick test run would help me immensely:

Tested and works OK, thank you.
I'll happily co-maintain if you want to.

Hi Christian,

There was a build of vpnc for EPEL7:
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=552425
It was tested right away at the time:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1058393#c9

But it was never published on Bodhi:
https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/?packages=vpnc

Could you please create an errata for this build?
Maybe updating to svn550 makes sense too.

As a side note, I cannot test anymore.

I was wondering if it makes sense to retire vpnc? It is dead upstream and there is no maintenance which is bad for such a VPN software.

Comment 12 François Cami 2019-09-05 12:28:07 UTC
Retiring it makes sense too.

Comment 13 Troy Dawson 2024-07-08 22:02:56 UTC
EPEL 7 entered end-of-life (EOL) status on 2024-06-30.\n\nEPEL 7 is no longer maintained, which means that it\nwill not receive any further security or bug fix updates.\n As a result we are closing this bug.
