Cause: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5 includes a Directory Server plug-in, slapi-nis, which allows legacy clients to access identities of Identity Management Server users in older RFC 2307 schema (Identity Management uses RFC 2307bis natively). However, the compatibility user tree supports only the identity service and does not support other services, like authentication or password changes.
Consequence: Users cannot use the compatibility tree to authenticate to legacy clients or change their passwords.
Workaround (if any): Upgrade to Identity Management Server present in RHEL 7.0 which contains an enhanced slapi-nis plugin allowing authentication of both Identity Management Server users and Active Directory users.
Result: N/A
