TBH, I'll need to look at it better to tell..
Note, however, the 'libtool' script is part of usual project tarball and even if we fixed this in libtool now (somehow), the fix must stay in Packaging Guidelines way longer (almost forever).
Note the upstream thread which seems to be ending up with final solution: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.gnu.libtool.general/8339/focus=8345 Sum-up: Libtool is not able to detect what is the linker's path. Also the so far unsuccessful attempts to fix ldconfig: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.glibc.alpha/13815 http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.glibc.alpha/19256 I filled a bug against redhat-rpm-config (see "Depends on" field) which should help us with older libtools. TBH, I am still afraid that it will take a very long time until we manage to remove (or fix) the PG regarding RPATH.
Gmane died in the meantime, so FTR the thread from comment #2 is also here: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/libtool/2014-12/msg00007.html I proposed now slightly less-intrusive patch against redhat-rpm-config: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/redhat-rpm-config/pull-request/55
