RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHBA-2016:2312 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE logwatch bug fix update 2016-11-03 13:41:34 UTC

Description Martin Frodl 2014-11-11 15:34:22 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #888007 +++

Description of problem:
logwatch should suppress smartd copyright message in its output, as has been agreed upon multiple times (bug 673758, bug 888007). The file /usr/share/logwatch/scripts/services/smartd, which is responsible for smartd log processing, searches for this message in an obsolete format when attempting to remove it, cf. line 120:

          || ($ThisLine =~ /^smartd .*Copyright \(C\) [0-9-]+ by Bruce Allen/)

In earlier smartd versions, the copyright message used to be indeed a single line, which is, however, not the case anymore:

# smartd -d
smartd 6.2 2013-07-26 r3841 [x86_64-linux-3.10.0-195.el7.x86_64] (local build)
Copyright (C) 2002-13, Bruce Allen, Christian Franke, www.smartmontools.org
...

To match the actual message, line 120 needs to be replaced by two separate lines such as these (inspired by the patch used to fix bug 888007):

          || ($ThisLine =~ /^.*Copyright \(C\) [0-9-]+ by Bruce Allen/)
          || ($ThisLine =~ /^smartd [0-9\.]+ [0-9-]+/)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
logwatch-7.4.0-28.20130522svn140.el7
smartmontools-6.2-4.el7
