Comment 17 Jiri Popelka 2015-03-06 13:40:51 UTC
1) boot Fedora-Live-WS-x86_64-22_A-3 from usb
2) # cat /proc/partitions
see several dm-x
3) mkfs.ext4 /dev/mapper/vg_main-lv02_root_F22
OK
4) try to install F22, anaconda doesn't allow me to use pre-formated volume as /
and insists on creating a new filesystem on it, so mark it to be ext4 formated and run installation
5) crash
6) # cat /proc/partitions
no dm-x

Comment 18 Petr Schindler 2015-03-06 15:38:23 UTC
I'm proposing this as beta blocker as it violates beta criterion: "When using the custom partitioning flow, the installer must be able to:
* Assign mount points to existing storage volumes"

Comment 19 Adam Williamson 2015-03-09 16:22:39 UTC
Discussed at 2015-03-09 blocker review meeting: http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-blocker-review/2015-03-09/f22-blocker-review.2015-03-09-16.05.log.txt . Accepted as a blocker per criterion cited in comment #18.

Comment 20 Petr Schindler 2015-03-09 16:33:15 UTC
Another user experienced a similar problem:

I reproduced this by following instructions from comment 15.

I marked old root on lvm partition to be reused as new root (with reformating) and mark all others existing partitions (boot and swap on the same lvg) to be deleted. And I created new /boot and swap of the same size as on previous installation.

After I started the installation it crashed.

I can confirm that this patch fixed the problem for me.

I chose to do manual partitioning.

When I chose to begin installation, this error appeared.

Another user experienced a similar problem:

I tried to install Fedora 22 Alpha using manual partition scheme.
I already have a LVM volume group (voyager) encrypted with Luks. I'm using existing logical volumes (fedora22 and swap) for the new Fedora 22 installation. Installation crashed at the start of installation. I used the same procedure with earlier Fedora releases (F20, F21) successfully.

After applying the patch from comment 21 and manually unmounting swap partitions/volumes, see bug 1199021, installation completes successfully.

Package python-blivet-1.0.3-1.fc22, anaconda-22.20.4-1.fc22:
* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora 22 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing python-blivet-1.0.3-1.fc22 anaconda-22.20.4-1.fc22'
as soon as you are able to.
Please go to the following url:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-3846/anaconda-22.20.4-1.fc22,python-blivet-1.0.3-1.fc22
then log in and leave karma (feedback).

Comment 34 John F Sullivan 2015-03-14 12:24:13 UTC
Since this issue occurs in the installer, do we need to wait for the Beta to test this fix?

Comment 35 Joachim Frieben 2015-03-14 17:30:21 UTC
(In reply to John F Sullivan from comment #34)
No, you can update the relevant packages on a running live system and install to disk from it. That is what has been done successfully and reported in comment 28.

Comment 36 John F Sullivan 2015-03-14 23:32:14 UTC
Thank you, Joachim - read through the comments too quickly and somehow missed that one. Greatly appreciated.

Comment 37 David Green 2015-03-15 00:48:53 UTC
I will test this Monday or Tuesday once it gets to the regular repos. I encountered the bug using the network install image, but will try the live cd and do an update before attempting an instalation.

Comment 38 John F Sullivan 2015-03-15 12:34:42 UTC
Worked perfectly for me after updating to:
  anaconda-22.20.4-1.fc22.x86_64
  python-blivet-1.0.3-1.fc22.noarch

Thanks for the quick turnaround and patient instructions, Joachim.

Beside the bug 1200812, using these:
 anaconda-22.20.4-1.fc22.x86_64
 python-blivet-1.0.3-1.fc22.noarch

fixed the problem for me.
