Description of problem: Once I upgrade the below packages and reboot nm-applet no longer shows up in the xfce notification area. The nm-applet process is running and if I do 'killall /usr/lib64/xfce4/panel/wrapper' the notification area will restart and the icon will show, but it won't show if I kill nm-applet and restart it, or if it is started at boot. gtk3.i686 updates gtk3.x86_64 3.14.10-1.fc21 updates gtk3-devel.x86_64 3.14.10-1.fc21 updates gtk3-devel-docs.x86_64 3.14.10-1.fc21 updates gtk3-immodule-xim.x86_64 3.14.10-1.fc21 updates Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 3.14.10-1.fc21 How reproducible: I'm not sure how to reproduce this. I have a VM where it is working fine, but on my laptop it is not. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Use xfce on Fedora 21 2. Update to 3.14.10-1.fc21 3. Reboot 4. ??? Actual results: nm-applet does not display Expected results: nm-applet should display Additional info: I tried twice to confirm, yum -y downgrade gtk3* and a reboot gets it working again. Please let me know what to send to possibly help with diagnosing this further.
The problem starts after 3.14.9-1. 3.14.9-1, 3.14.8-2, and 3.14.8-1 work. The problem is present in 3.14.11-1 as well.
I think this is duplicated by #1208417

I think this is an interaction of xfce4-panel with the new gtk3. I reproduced the problem on F21 Xfce live ISO with gtk3 updated to gtk3-3.14.10-1. However, on my F21 with Openbox and tint2 panel, I don't have any problem. I have updated from gtk3-3.14.9-1 to gtk3-3.14.10-1, and nm-applet icon displays correctly.
the only 'suspicious' commit between 3.14.9 and 3.14.10 is this: https://git.gnome.org/browse/gtk+/commit/?h=gtk-3-14&id=78475606c9b311580eef126ff3d88fe0f751293a If you could try reverting just that, that would be super-helpful. It might be a while before I get around to it myself.
Scratch build with patch/commit reversed is here: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=9430282 It seems to fix the issue for me. Just installed, rebooted, and have nm-applet in notification area without doing anything special.

gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21 has been submitted as an update for Fedora 21. https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21
Package gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 21 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21' as soon as you are able to. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2015-5920/gtk3-3.14.12-1.fc21 then log in and leave karma (feedback).
The nm-applet icon disappears in Fedora 22 with gtk3-3.16.1-1.fc22.x86_64 from updates-testing, 3.16.0-1.fc22 looks okay. Please revert the dedicated patch also fc22 (and therefore rawhide), too.

This was done upstream, but right after the 3.16.1 release happened. There is going to be a 3.16.2 release very soon, and it will have the revert in it.

Of course it works, Matthias, even with >= Xfce 4.12. :) 'firewall-applet' & 'nm-applet' icons don't appear. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1208969 https://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2015-April/msg00030.html

Hmm, my nm-applet has gone awol today on fc22/xfce - it was OK yesterday but then I did pull in a large bunch of updates yesterday. gtk3-3.16.1-1.fc22.x86_64 network-manager-applet-1.0.0-1.fc22.x86_64 Could this be the same bug or is it likely to be separate? Dave

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle. Changing version to '23'. (As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.) More information and reason for this action is here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping/Fedora23
Could this bug be closed? Comment #18 says bug is fixed.
Sure.
