I've just clicked on Klipper to see what's stored on the clipboard and plasma crashed. Not the first time this exact thing happens

Another user experienced a similar problem:

the KDE tray seems to be buggy, not loading the instant messaging tray or properly opening the media player when media starts playing. By opening the widgets menu on the dashboard, I can cause plasma to crash and restart, which usually causes the tray to load properly. both the tray and the dashboard crashes are serious problems.

possibly unrelated, but kwin occasionally needs to be --replace ed.

Another user experienced a similar problem:

I defined "Alt+F2" for running "krunner" as shortcut in the systemsettings. After hitting this shortcut twice, I got the message that it crashed but didn't see any abnormality.

I believe this is the same bug that KDE has reported as fixed, see
   https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349519 .
When do you plan to release their latest version?

A search for "plasma shell crash" yields 14 hits, many of which are probably different reports of this bug.

Comment 17 Rex Dieter 2015-09-10 17:19:33 UTC
this crash is different than upstream 349519, that one is about bug #1259443 (working on apply workarounds to mesa packaging now)

Another user experienced a similar problem:

The desktop became unresponsive. I went to tty2 and did "init 3" then "init 5". The desktop came back with this error.
