Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

The presentation at http://videos.cdn.redhat.com/summit2015/presentations/13836_using-red-hat-systems-management-tools-in-a-hybrid-cloud.pdf provides a good overview on the BiModal IT and Hybrid Cloud.
For the Cloud part the difference between RHUI and Satellite is explained well.
The details also provide a good overview of the steps needed for traditional, Gartner mode 1, systems to be re-register them from RHUI to Satellite.
Sadly the BiModal IT “mode 2” features are only mentioned, but now referred to in the rest of the presentation.
My questions on Satellite 6 and AWS are on these “mode 2” systems.
Below some questions based on the “mode 2” features mentioned in Slide 4 of this presentation:
- How does Satellite support the “Developer-deployed”?
o E.g. Satellite 6 components Content Views, AMI images, Docker images?
o How to integrate and streamline build environments to use Satellite 6?
o Developer Self-service?
- How does Satellite support “Build for Change, agility and speed”?
o E.g. Satellite 6 components Content Views, AMI images, Docker images?
o How to integrate and streamline build environments to use Satellite 6?
- How does Satellite support _elastic_ “Scale-out” (AWS autoscaling, spot instances) that Cloud provides?
o Reduced startup time of Application instances without full Kickstart/YUM-updates/Puppet?
o Allocation and Releasing of Subscriptions?
Can you please provide a Documentation Guide / BestPractice how to use Sat6 with AWS.

Peter,
Thanks for the feedback/request. This will have to be evaluated in the next planning phase of the documentation and I will update this bug once I know when we can get this assigned.

Hi Peter,
Thank you for following up on this bug.
I agree - that looks like a good topic for us to follow up on after we have created the content for this bug.
We will focus on getting the steps for cloud images sorted to begin with, and will look to work on the bug for docker images after that.
Kind regards,
Andrew
