Description Huijuan Zhao 2016-04-27 09:08:18 UTC
Description of problem:
As now users use cockpit do administration, it should can upgrade via cockpit.
There should be an exclamation mark in the 'System' tab of cockpit when update is available.
When clicks there, it shows 'update is available - would you like to update now?' dialog.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Anaconda install NGN 4.0.
2. Logs in to Cockpit, sees in the 'System' tab that there's an exclamation mark.
When click there, it shows 'update is available - would you like to update now?' dialog.
3. If click yes, a dialog opens up with a progress bar:
        Downloading new image
        Updating
4. When it's done - either:
"VMs are running on this host - please switch to to maintenance before rebooting"
Press 'Reboot' to reboot the host into the updated image

Currently, in cockpit there is no such approach to upgrade in the 'System' tab when update is available.

Comment 3 Fabian Deutsch 2016-04-27 11:17:03 UTC
This might be a bit tricky. It depends if we can leverage a feature from COckpit or need to invent something for our own.

Please remember that there will be an update mechanism on the Engine side for 4.0

Comment 4 Fabian Deutsch 2016-09-02 10:12:49 UTC
Also: if we do this, let's keep it simple and let's stick to a simple

$ yum check-update

And just say that updates are available please use Engine or yum check-updates for details.

Comment 5 Yaniv Kaul 2017-06-06 19:16:07 UTC
I don't see us implementing this.
Perhaps Cockpit should do it (for all updates anyway) ?

Comment 6 Ryan Barry 2017-06-19 11:25:03 UTC
I expect that cockpit's subscriptions/system page should be doing this for all systems, though that would miss the ovirt-specific flow described in comment#1 ("VMs are running on this host..."). That's probably ok, as oVirt users should be familiar with that workflow in any case

Comment 7 Ryan Barry 2017-09-20 11:37:23 UTC
We will actually need the platform cockpit team to do this. It cannot be done from cockpit-ovirt.

If we have time, let's submit a design

Can we open a BZ on cockpit and close this as upstream?

Comment 9 Ryan Barry 2017-09-21 12:08:02 UTC
We can definitely do that

Opened a bug on cockpit to trace this RFE: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1497409
