The offset2lib patch as used in the i686 32-bit Linux kernel contains a vulnerability that allows a PIE binary to be execve()'ed with 1GB of arguments or environmental strings. the stack occupies the address 0x80000000 and the PIE binary is mapped above 0x40000000 nullifying the protection of the offset2lib patch.

Description Andrej Nemec 2017-06-16 06:37:46 EDT
A flaw was found in the Linux kernel where execution of a PIE binary could allow for an attacker to corrupt memory or match priviledges of accessible setuid binaries on a system.

This is a different issue than CVE-2017-1000371

Statement:

This issue does not affect the Linux kernel packages as shipped with Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 7 and MRG-2 as the i686 architecture is not supported by
this kernel.

This issue affects the Linux kernel packages as shipped with Red Hat
Enterprise Linux 5 and 6. At this time there is no plan to release an
update to fix this issue.
