This issue is described as part of an RFE for an infrastructure for resizable/sortable columns support in tree-based grids: bug 1147633
I.e. this bug is blocked by bug 1147633.

Comment 2 Tal Nisan 2018-07-18 08:43:45 UTC
We currently don't have the infrastructure to resize tree grids and doubt if it will get in, closing as WONTFIX
