Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Frank Polte 2018-06-19 12:47:58 UTC
Description of problem:

There is/was a buffer boundary problem in the rastertoepson filter coming with cups, which only affects A6 paper size on any Linux.

The filter crashes at the end of the first page and leaves the dot matrix printer in an non-reseted state. This leaves to several problems later.

Because it is a Memory Management Bug and CUPS is a security sensitive problem, this may even lead to security issues.

I already filed the bug upstream and there it was fixed within one week.

https://github.com/apple/cups/issues/5323

Please backport the fixes:
https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/0dd6c36be918fe1d3c216a1c168277f37908c465
and
https://github.com/apple/cups/commit/7e041a5e5569fdb339906eeb00e6706d562e228a

into RHEL6, RHEL7 and Fedora.

Any information and files needed are in the github issue mentioned above.

RHEL 6 is in the Maintenance Support 2 phase. During the Maintenance Support 2 Phase, Critical impact Security Advisories (RHSAs) and selected Urgent Priority Bug Fix Advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available.

The official life cycle policy can be reviewed here:
http://redhat.com/rhel/lifecycle

This issue does not meet the inclusion criteria for the Maintenance Support 2 Phase. If this remains a critical requirement, please contact Red Hat Customer Support to request a re-evaluation of the issue, citing a clear business justification. Red Hat Customer Support can be contacted via the Red Hat Customer Portal at the following URL:

I'll clone this bugzilla for Fedora.

Comment 7 Zdenek Dohnal 2020-02-11 13:54:43 UTC
Red Hat Enterprise Linux version 7 entered the Maintenance Support 1 Phase in August 2019. In this phase only qualified Critical and Important Security errata advisories (RHSAs) and Urgent Priority Bug Fix errata advisories (RHBAs) may be released as they become available. Other errata advisories may be delivered as appropriate.

This bug has been reviewed by Support and Engineering representative and does not meet the inclusion criteria for Maintenance Support 1 Phase. If this issue still exists in newer major version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, it has been cloned there and work will continue in the cloned bug.

For more information about Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lifecycle, please see https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/

Comment 8 Frank Polte 2020-02-11 14:48:11 UTC
Does this mean it will not be fixed for all RHEL releases or just for RHEL6?

Comment 9 Zdenek Dohnal 2020-02-11 16:47:32 UTC
Oh, I make the comment private... my mistake.
