Description Kim Nylander 2018-07-06 16:33:04 UTC
Description of problem:
OSP 13 Storage Guide[1] needs to reflect changes to the cinder service now that it is containerized.

Anything that refers to editing /etc/cinder needs to be checked. For example:
* 2.2 with internal tenants,
* 2.2.3 for image cache,
* 2.2.6 for configuring the filter scheduler,
* 2.2.7.1 editing a file on the node (which would be in a container now),
* 2.2.8.3 tells you to log into the node (have to log into the container).

Other issues in storage guide to correct:

2.2.7 Don't recommend setting API to version 2 (we deploy with v3 enabled now). Section about setting the API version should be removed.

2.3.6 Should not be documenting multi attach in OSP 13 because it isn't supported. This feature may be supported in OSP 14 or 15. (BZ 1033180)

2.3.9 Step 4 should not say that this is done by the QEMU disk image utility. Should just say that Cinder uploads a new image instead of the QEMU disk utility.

2.4.1.1 and 2.4.1.3 Should not recommend passing in version 2 API. Change the code command to remove the --os-volume-api-version 2 statement: It should only be cinder backup-export BACKUP ID.

2.4.1.1. Change references from Keystone API v2 to v3.

2.4.2 Migrate a volume. Verify that the RBD information is still correct. (Ask Jon Bernard)

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
OSP 13

In addition, search for the OS volume api version 2 issue and make sure it is corrected everywhere.

Comment 2 Kim Nylander 2018-07-10 16:40:28 UTC
Also, log locations should be checked. Instead of /var/log/cinder, they should be /var/log/containers/cinder or possibly link to the log location chapter [2] instead of listing log files.

See comments [1] which opened BZ 1598880 about log file locations for cinder in the log file locations.

Update on work for this BZ:
Anything that refers to editing /etc/cinder needs to be checked. For example:
* Done - 2.2 with internal tenants,
* In QE BZ#1662495 - 2.2.3 for image cache,
* Done - 2.2.6 for configuring the filter scheduler,
* DRAFT BZ#1662563 - 2.2.7.1 editing a file on the node (which would be in a container now),
* Done - 2.2.8.3 tells you to log into the node (have to log into the container).

Other issues in storage guide to correct:

DONE. 2.2.7 Don't recommend setting API to version 2 (we deploy with v3 enabled now). Section about setting the API version should be removed.

DONE 2.3.6 Should not be documenting multi attach in OSP 13 because it isn't supported. This feature may be supported in OSP 14 or 15. (BZ 1033180)

DONE 2.3.9 Step 4 should not say that this is done by the QEMU disk image utility. Should just say that Cinder uploads a new image instead of the QEMU disk utility.

DONE 2.4.1.1 and 2.4.1.3 Should not recommend passing in version 2 API. Change the code command to remove the --os-volume-api-version 2 statement: It should only be cinder backup-export BACKUP ID.

DONE. 2.4.1.1. Change references from Keystone API v2 to v3.

Changes made to corresponding AsciiDoc files in the storage guide. Backup content removed and links added to new Block Storage Backup Guide.

Hey Laura,
I forget are we done can I review/verify this or are we still waiting on some bits?

Comment 14 Tzach Shefi 2019-02-21 10:18:15 UTC
Hi Laura,

Section (2.2.7.1. Set Up Consistency Groups) has now been QE tested/verified.
After adding(overcloud redeploy) I was able to create a test CG.

Used CLI to create the test CG, not the broken Horizon.

Some artefacts are still not fixed: please check bug #1683323 that describes issues in chapter "2.2.8.2. Enable Volume Backup Management Through the Dashboard"
