Description of problem: Xfce Desktop Environment is broken/unusable after system upgrade. The only pkgs upgraded during this process were Xfce pkgs and it looks like all the critical ones, like session, libxfce4ui, panel, and xfdesktop. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xfce4-sesssion-4.13.1 xfce4-panel-4.13.3 Steps to Reproduce: 1. dnf --refresh system-upgrade --download --releasever=30 2. dnf system-upgrade reboot Actual results: System takes a long time to boot and, after logging in, an empty white desktop shows with the mouse cursor in the middle of the screen, but xfce-panel never loads and the desktop wallpaper never sets. session and panel are running, though.
Does your system have nvidia card?
I cannot reproduce this with a VM. But, I CAN reproduce this in my laptop that has a nvidia GPU. Having said that, I do not think this is a nvidia GPU since I cannot reproduce this with MATE. Please attach ~/.xfce4-session.verbose-log and ~/.xsession-errors.
No, it's just a netbook with intel atom on-chip display.
Created attachment 1476791 [details] .xsession-errors I don't see your attachments on this bug. But, here are mine. I don't see anything suggestive.

There is a combination of xorg and xfwm4 that causes this bug. Some Gentoo users also saw this from the looks of it. https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8223584.html?sid=9d2dfff8175c2e37943e63ca8028a386 I will try to trace this.

I have a temporary fix - disabling compositor. Gentoo and Arch bugs seem to suggest this issue is fixed with xorg-x11-server 1.20.1. That does not seem to be the case with us here and I don't know why. In the meantime, I don't want to leave Xfce broken. 4.13.1-2 (building on F30 and F29) should fix your issue. please test.
Wow, thanks! I'll try it ASAP. Should I check on updates-testing or koji? But, I'm having upgrading any package with DNF, now, on F30. You wouldn't happen to know about bug 1456079 would you. I seem to run into this every time with rawhide. Do you not have this problem, too?
(In reply to Paul DeStefano from comment #9) > Wow, thanks! I'll try it ASAP. But, I do not use Rawhide as daily driver and only on a test vm/system. I will have to take a look.
Yep, I was able to get to the desktop with that build RPM and composer isn't working. Thanks!
Thanks Miro. That bug looks like exactly what we expect from comment 8. Ragavan, I cannot tell from the gentoo bug if this has been fixed up stream or not; seems like there is still some confusion.
