Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Ganesh Patil 2018-09-11 16:50:10 UTC
Description of problem:

task is not getting generated in Red Hat Satellite webui while applying the errata through the katello-agent.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Red Hat Satellite 6.3.3

How reproducible:

Click on Content -> Select Packages -> "Select a specific Repository" -> Click

on check-box - on applicable -> Select a specific Package -> Select Upgradable

option --> Select the package --> You will be able to see the hosts in

"Upgradable for" option -- > Select "All" or "Specific host --> Click on "Select Action" -

-> Select "Manage Packages" --> Under the "Update all Packages" tab select "via

Katello-agent" --> As soon as you select "via katello-agent option" you will get

message as " Successfully scheduled an update of all packages "

However, there will not be any task will get generated for the same in Satellite Webui.

Actual results:

Task is not getting generated in Satellite Webui while applying the errata via katello-agent.

"Under Monitor --> Tasks "

Expected results:

There should be task get generated for errata update, which should get initiated as soon as we click on -- update errata :" via Katello-agent" option.

Ganesh,

Do you have an internal reproducer that we can look at?

The scenario above appears to be a 'package install' scenario versus errata install/apply scenario. Is the description or result incorrectly stated?

Comment 3 Brad Buckingham 2018-09-28 13:13:28 UTC
Hi Ganesh,

Thanks for providing access to the reproducer. The behavior observed is expected. In Satellite 6.3 (as well as prior releases), bulk actions performed on a content host via katello-agent do not generate a task. That said, bulk actions via remote execution do.

Based upon https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1108106#c15, there are no plans at this time to migrate the bulk actions for katello-agent to tasks.

For now, I am going to close this one as a duplicate, based upon the referenced comment.
