Created attachment 1502542 [details] Screenshot of the Notification area Description of problem: The notification icons displayed by the Notification area applet are transparent, but the new version of this applet in F29 displays the icons with black background, which makes them less pretty and less visible. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): xfce4-panel-4.13.3-20.fc29.x86_64 Note: I use vertical panels, but it behaves the same for other users on my machines, which use default horizontal panels.
Does the background go away with changing theme? Is your theme GTK-3? Does it have the corresponding theme engines installed?
This reminds me of an older bug. The cause could be an issue with graphics driver, what card do you use?
Re: comment #1 You are right about themes: I have Clearlooks Classic theme on my desktops. I tried to change the theme ((f) menu -> settings -> appearance). When I change the theme to Clearlooks (not Classic) or Arc-Dark, nothing happens. When I change the theme to Xfce-4.6, the background of notification icons switches to light grey, and remains grey even after setting ClearlooksClassic back again. BTW, when I select XFce-4.6 theme or any other Xfce* theme, all my scrollbars disappear - in Firefox where I am writing this comment right now, in all my Terminals, in the theme selector, etc. No scrollbar at all. They are back after returning to ClearlooksClassic) After going to Xfce-4.6 and back, the background of notification icons is light grey, but it remains grey even after selecting a dark theme, e.g. Arc-Dark. So going to XFce-4.6 and back leads to a similar problem, only with a different subset of themes (i.e. dark ones).
Re: comment #2 I don't think it is HW dependent. I have Radeon on one desktop, on-board Intel on another one, and on-board Intel on a laptop.
Thanks for the information. This lets me suspect a general bug somewhere in Gtk3. Do you have compositor enabled? If yes, please try to disable and report if the issue is still there. What window manager is used, propably xfwm4 as the default?
This is still present on F30 (tested on a laptop with Intel HD graphics and a desktop with Radeon). XFCE + Sawfish window manager, no compositor.
Created attachment 1566797 [details] xfce notification area Is this an uninitialised image buffer? Please see a 2nd icon background! But qxkb flag is wrong too. HU flag, on right edge US flag. I use Xfce4, Compiz, nouveau driver, NVIDIA Corporation G86 [GeForce 8500 GT] hardware, up to date Fedora 30.
I have the same problem: the tray icons rendering looks to be broken and behave oddly when switching themes: some change the backround, some don't. Turning the compositor on in xfwm4 tweaks seems to fix the problem (with Graybird Gtk theme at least). Also I can confirm that I encounter the same problems on several machines with different hardware configuration and drivers. Btw., see the bug #1715553 -- looks like F29 duplicate of this one.
Same problem for me when the "XFCE compositor" is disabled. To enable (but it leads to higher CPU rates on my i5 processor laptop with Intel HD graphics): xfwm4-tweaks-settings > Compositor > [x] Enable display compositing. Then the icons in the panel tray are rendered properly.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 30 is nearing its end of life. Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 30 on 2020-05-26. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '30'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 30 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 30 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2020-05-26. Fedora 30 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
