RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Fixed In Version:
Doc Type: Known Issue
Doc Text:
.`Gnome Documents` cannot display some documents when installed without `LibreOffice` `Gnome Documents` uses libraries provided by the `LibreOffice` suite for rendering certain types of documents, such as OpenDocument Text or Open Office XML formats. However, the required `libreoffice-filters` libraries are missing from the dependency list of the `gnome-documents` package. Therefore, if you install `Gnome Documents` on a system that does not have `LibreOffice`, these document types cannot be rendered. To work around this problem, install the `libreoffice-filters` package manually, even if you do not plan to use LibreOffice itself.

Hello rishi,

do you think that this is a problem in libreofficekit rather than gnome-documents ?
Is there something I can try to prove it so we can get it fixed ?

Thanks

Comment 4 Martin Krajnak 2019-04-05 13:12:24 UTC
BTW something is clearly wrong with the dependencies here:

When I install gnome-documents:
Installed:
  gnome-documents.x86_64 0:3.28.2-2.el7

Dependency Installed:
  libreofficekit.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7

Result MSOffice/LO documents are not rendering

Then I tried yum -y instlal libreoffice:

Installed:
  libreoffice.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7

Dependency Installed:
  libreoffice-base.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7
  libreoffice-calc.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7
  libreoffice-core.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7
  libreoffice-data.noarch 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7

  libreoffice-writer.x86_64 1:5.3.6.1-21.el7

Result: Documents are rendering

Comment 5 Martin Krajnak 2019-04-05 13:13:38 UTC
So clearly at least we have a workaround by installing LO.

Comment 6 Martin Krajnak 2019-04-05 14:29:50 UTC
This already happened in 7.4 see bug1466164

We deliberately loosened the requirements in bug 1066844. Earlier libreofficekit would pull in almost the entirety of libreoffice, which had other side-effects.

I am inclined to WONTFIX this given the current age of RHEL 7.
