Using the modular X packages, putting /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc:unscaled in the
font paths causes things to fail.  Dropping the :unscaled works.

Fixed in Red Hat libXfont-0.99.2-3 and later.

xfs 0.99.2-2 updated to require the new libXfont or greater

xorg-x11-server-Xorg-0.99.2-4 also fixed.
