Description Igor Raits 2019-07-21 11:11:46 UTC
Hello,

Fedora Packaging Guidelines allow dependencies only on files/directories from /usr/bin, /usr/sbin and /etc directories[0].
Your package depends on files/directories outside of those. See below for more information about package/dependencies.

---
perl-Convert-Color-0.11-16.fc31.src:
  - /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
---

Please correct those or provide reason why is it correct.
It is very important to not download huge filelists.xml just because few packages in distribution depend on non-standard paths.

Thanks for cooperation!

Changing version to '31'.

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2019-08-13 18:59:01 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 31 development cycle.
Changing version to 31.

Comment 3 Ben Cotton 2020-11-03 15:21:07 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 31 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 31 on 2020-11-24.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '31'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 31 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Petr Pisar 2020-11-04 11:27:01 UTC
The file has been moved to a dedicated subpackage:

# dnf --quiet repoquery --whatprovides /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt
rgb-0:1.0.6-36.fc33.x86_64

which exists since xorg-x11-server-utils-7.7-33.fc32. Because Ralf does not support EPEL, the dependency can be safely changed after EOLing F31.

Comment 5 Fedora Program Management 2021-04-29 15:55:59 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 32 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 32 on 2021-05-25.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '32'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Comment 6 Ben Cotton 2021-05-25 15:01:58 UTC
Fedora 32 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2021-05-25. Fedora 32 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 7 Petr Pisar 2024-01-18 12:51:39 UTC
Packaging guidelines now forbid a dependency on paths different from /etc, /usr/bin, and /usr/sbin <https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/#_file_and_directory_dependencies>.

Comment 8 Petr Pisar 2024-01-18 13:05:44 UTC
I prepared a fix at <https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/perl-Convert-Color/pull-request/1>.

Comment 9 Petr Pisar 2024-01-23 11:44:04 UTC
The file dependency in not supported by Fedora build system anymore and as a result perl-Convert-Color-0.17-3.fc40 fails to build in Fedora 40:

Well, this is a "very friendly" description of the packaging regressions having been introduced into dnf ;-)

I'll try to add a (IMO: ugly and stupid) hack to work around this mess.
