At the current state the project is an Installshield based installer which installs the virtio-win drivers and relevant agents, the project is different from the U/S guest tools. On 4.4 we intend to move away from that split and use the new virtio-win Wix toolset based msi installer which will be provided inside the virtio-win iso.
Marina, Because the functionality will be replaced in 4.4, but there is no current replacement, a deprecation notice is not appropriate now. However, customers need some prior notification that this change will take place. Martin suggested that a KB article would be appropriate right now to make this announcement and give our users a heads-up, and then once it's done, we can add a Release Note to announce it in the product. I assigned this to you for now to create a KB article, and a new BZ should be created, assigned to me, to make a release note in the release where the change appears. Let us know what you think.

Hi, I am confused for what is the ask here? Is it about deprecating the previous installer? But aren't we going to have a 1:1 feature match replacement wiht the installshield? Is this process going to be changed/deprecated? https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.3/html-single/virtual_machine_management_guide/index#Installing_the_Guest_Agents_and_Drivers_on_Windows

But aren't we going to have > a 1:1 feature match replacement wiht the installshield? > Yes there is but the process is a bit different, the diffs can be found at the docs but in general: - user needs to select to msi for his arch. - user needs to install qemu-ga separately for now. - user needs to select ovirt-ga from the installer. > Is this process going to be changed/deprecated? > https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_virtualization/4.3/ > html-single/virtual_machine_management_guide/ > index#Installing_the_Guest_Agents_and_Drivers_on_Windows Steve can sand you a link to the docs changes
I spoke with Marina. We decided two things: 1. I'll add a deprecation notice to the 4.3.11 Release Notes in the Deprecated Features. 2. Sandro, we need a bug for 4.4 to create an enhancement note in the 4.4 Release Notes. 3. Marina will edit the KCS in comment 7.
Here's the deprecation notice I'll add: rhv-guest-tools.iso | The rhv-guest-tools iso image will be replaced in Red Hat Virtualization 4.4 by virtio-win-guest-tools iso image.

Marina updated the article mentioned in comment 7.

We finally got it straight, I believe. Here is the updated KCS: https://access.redhat.com/solutions/4899411.
