RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

For fake testing on non-conatinerised environment (bmr++):

mkdir /host
mount --bind / /host
for i in $(ls / | grep -v host); do mount --bind /$i /host/$i; done

export ENV_CONTAINER=docker; export ENV_HOST_SYSROOT=/host

sosreport --batch --build

(and check if it collected e.g. /proc/sys/net/ipv6/route/flush or /proc/sys/net/ipv6/neigh/ or /etc/X11/fontpath.d)

Strictly you don't need to bind all of the top level directories - /proc, /sys, and /run should be sufficient (as well as /var and any other optional separate file systems for the host in question).

To reproduce the problem where sos blocks on access to the trace files in the kernel plugin, you'll also need to bind mount /sys/kernel/debug:

  # mount --bind /sys/kernel/debug/ /host/sys/kernel/debug

  # ./sosreport -v --batch -s /host -o kernel

  sosreport (version 3.8)
  [...]
  [plugin:kernel] collecting path '/host/sys/module/ip_set/parameters'
  [plugin:kernel] collecting path '/host/sys/module/hid/parameters'
  [plugin:kernel] collecting path '/host/sys/kernel/debug/tracing/trace_pipe'

Hi Jake,
could you please verify the BZ against below package for 8.1?

A yum repository for the build of sos-3.7-6.el8_1 (task 24450381) is available at:

http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/

You can install the rpms locally by putting this .repo file in your /etc/yum.repos.d/ directory:

http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/sos-3.7-6.el8_1.repo

RPMs and build logs can be found in the following locations:
http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/noarch/

The full list of available rpms is:
http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/noarch/sos-3.7-6.el8_1.src.rpm
http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/noarch/sos-3.7-6.el8_1.noarch.rpm
http://brew-task-repos.usersys.redhat.com/repos/official/sos/3.7/6.el8_1/noarch/sos-audit-3.7-6.el8_1.noarch.rpm

Build output will be available for the next 21 days.

Comment 11 Jake Hunsaker 2019-11-05 12:52:32 UTC
I have tested this inside the rhel8 support-tools container and the fix looks complete to me. sos no longer hangs on the kernel plugin, and blacklisted paths are entirely skipped as intended.
