Description of problem: I did an update of a FC5T3 system using yum. When the update process got to installing the new kernel and started the grubby process - I got an error. I am attaching the output of the console. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): rpm -qa | grep kern kernel-2.6.15-1.1977_FC5 kernel-2.6.15-1.1975_FC5 rpm -qa | grep mkini mkinitrd-5.0.28-1 I do think that during the update - there was a new mkinitrd version as well. How reproducible: The new kernel has not been installed. If given instructions - I can try to prepare a scenario to check if this bug occurs regularly Additional info: I have attached the log of the console. If you need further info - I will try to provide it.

I am seeing that, too - with slightly different behaviour though. The kernel package is installed, all the files are there, only /boot/grub/grub.conf is left unmodified.
The problem with my grubby is exacly the same as the comment #2 by Pawel Salek - rpm installs the files and then the install scripts call /sbin/grubby via /sbin/new-kernel-pkg. Then I get the doublefree bug and grub's conf file is left unedited - no entry for the new kernel.
