An HTTP error occurred downloading the package's new Source URLs: Getting http://fontawesome.io/assets/font-awesome-5.15.2.zip to ./font-awesome-5.15.2.zip

Comment 8 Renee 2021-02-16 10:28:38 UTC
It looks like upgrading to FontAwesome 5 was previously attempted in July 2020 and rolled back:
- https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1854225

Meanwhile, FontAwesome 4 was EOL'd with the release of 5.0.6 in Feb 2018, 3 years ago (see https://github.com/FortAwesome/Font-Awesome/releases/tag/5.0.6).

Is there a plan for how to move forward here? It seems like the need for the upgrade is just going to grow over time, as more applications target FA 5...

Comment 9 Petr Vobornik 2021-02-24 19:40:26 UTC
Somebody needs to do a research what it means to bring Font Awesome fonts 5 to Fedora and what it means to packges which depends on FA4, e.g. FreeIPA. E.g. if it needs a separate package or upgrade everything which use 4 to 5.

I don't have time to do that and will happily support somebody who would like take over this task. E.g. pass on the package.

Comment 10 Matthias Runge 2021-02-25 13:20:46 UTC
personally, I don't have the time to maintain this package. It was previously a dependency of a dependency of a package I worked on, but my job responsibilities changed. I'd be more than happy, if someone else would take this over in caring hands.

Comment 13 Jerry James 2021-07-30 21:19:33 UTC
FontAwesome 4.x and 5.x are different enough that it looks nontrivial to port packages from one to the other. This came up because I am trying to get python-pydata-sphinx-theme into Fedora, and it requires FontAwesome 5.x. I cannot get it to work with the existing Fedora packages.

These packages directly require version 4.x. None of them have newer upstream versions that require 5.x.

- cantata
- freeipa
- ipsilon
- mkdocs
- plasma-applet-redshift-control
- python-XStatic-Font-Awesome
- python-sphinx_rtd_theme
- rubygem-font-awesome-rails
- texlive-fontawesome

This package requires version 5.x. Since 5.x is not available from Fedora, this package bundles the fonts.

- texlive-fontawesome5

These packages require version 4.x indirectly via python-sphinx_rtd_theme:

- coq
- libgpuarray
- libsemigroups
- python-BTrees
- python-acme
- python-f5-sdk
- python-networkx
- python-notebook
- python-streamlink
- python3-sphinx-ansible_theme

Note that a new version of python-networkx is available that uses the aforementioned python-pydata-sphinx-theme instead of python-sphinx_rtd_theme, so it will need version 5.x also after being updated.

I think it will be necessary to have both 4.x and 5.x versions in Fedora for awhile. We already have one package bundling 5.x. If we don't want that to keep happening, then we will need to put our collective heads together to figure out how to get 5.x into Fedora.
