Description Samuel Padgett 2020-12-08 17:17:17 UTC
Migrated from GitHub issue https://github.com/openshift/console/issues/5863:

Our organization has several users that attempt to browse to everything using IE. Would it be possible to make it so that when the user browses to the openshift console, it tells the user IE is not supported, and to try one of the supported browsers?

Comment 1 Jakub Hadvig 2020-12-09 10:35:23 UTC
Do we want to show it as a regular warning? If not, then it should be tackled more like an RFE than a bug.
Thoughts?

Comment 2 Samuel Padgett 2021-01-26 14:02:20 UTC
Hey, Jakub. I'm not sure what you mean by regular warning, but I think it should just be a message on the page. Since the layout for IE 11 is totally broken (IIRC - we can check), we should probably not try to render the app for IE 11 and just show the message.

Didn’t have time to work on this. Reassigning this to Jakub

Comment 5 Xiyun Zhao 2021-03-19 07:14:27 UTC
Failed to verify the bug on #8384 private build
A warn should be shown on page when user using an unsupported browser such as IE
Steps for verify:
    1. Navigate to the index of OCP by using IE (not Edge)
    2. Check the information that shown on the page

Failed to verify the bug, there is no warn can be found on browser of IE, only blank page, when user try to open OCP index by using IE.

More information:
    1. IE version: version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1440)
    2. OCP build: private build, launch through cluster-boot
         launch openshift/console#8384
    3. Compare the behavior on Chrome and Edge: User can open the OCP login page normally

Comment 6 Xiyun Zhao 2021-03-23 15:24:46 UTC

Steps for verify:
  1. Navigate to the index of OCP by using IE (not Edge)

  3. Verify if the refer link shown on page is workable

Result:
   1. A notice on below shown is on the page, which satisfied the requirement for the Bug.
Internet Explorer 11 and earlier are not supported, and the ocp console will not function with your current browser. Please use a supported browser such as the latest version of Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. The current Firefox ESR(Extended Support Release) is also supported. To see the browsers we test, refer to the OpenShift Container Platform 4.x Tested Integrations (for x86_x64)
   2. The refer link is workable, and it will redirect to the page of 'OpenShift Container Platform 4.x Tested Integrations(for x86_x64)'
