Description Simon Pasquier 2021-01-15 08:56:27 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1916056 +++

Description of problem:
This issue is not for a bug. To enable a metric from ACM 2.2 Visual Web Terminal (visual_web_terminal_sessions_total) for OCP monitoring telemetry, we need to open a PR against the openshift/cluster-monitoring-operator manifest allowlist. The monitoring team's process, though, requires that the PR be associated with a Bugzilla issue number. (We are not sure if an ACM Bugzilla issue will work with their PR automation, but they suggested to try this first.)

This work is being tracked under our ACM Github issue https://github.com/open-cluster-management/backlog/issues/8215

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Since ACM 2.2 will support an OCP hub cluster on version 4.5, 4.6 and 4.7, we would like this metric to be included (and back-ported as necessary to z-stream releases where possible.

The openshift/cluster-monitoring-operator PR bot did not seem to like an ACM Bugzilla issue, so will continue to work with the OCP monitoring team on this.

Assigning to the Monitoring component for now though we're not directly responsible for it (see related discussion: https://coreos.slack.com/archives/C0VMT03S5/p1610550366235100).

Elliott changed bug status from MODIFIED to ON_QA.

Comment 2 Mark Anderson 2021-02-09 19:18:59 UTC
This metric has been added to the allow list and is in OCP 4.7 FC5 and later. See https://github.com/openshift/cluster-monitoring-operator/pull/1035. This issue requests that the metric be backported to the allow list for OCP 4.6.z so this metric can be gathered by telemetry for the upcoming ACM 2.2 installed on any OCP 4.6.z hub cluster.

Comment 3 Mark Anderson 2021-02-10 16:21:08 UTC
To verify it in an OCP 4.6.z build, we would need to install ACM 2.2 it. I, or another member of the ACM team can help with verifying it.

@markande I'll go ahead an close this on account of its age. Please reopen if you'd still like to pursue this.

Comment 17 Mark Anderson 2022-07-29 13:07:17 UTC
@jfajersk Thank you. The Visual Web Terminal tech preview feature was removed from Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management for Kubernetes in v2.4 so the need to backport that metric to OCP 4.6.z stream became less important than when this issue was opened. I thought this issue had been closed out a while ago but apparently we missed it.
