The vswitch has simple pre-loaded forwarding rules without caches or upcalls. All packets take the same amount of time to be processed providing great predictability.

Some feedback form earlier discussions around this subject:

[mdgray] Could we increase the expiration time of flows and then prime the fast path with the known traffic patterns by forcing an upcall with dummy traffic. Might avoid big modifications to OVS.
