RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

.`logrotate` included in a separate `rsyslog-logrotate` package The `logrotate` config was separated from the main `rsyslog` package into the new `rsyslog-logrotate` package. This is useful in certain minimal environments, for example where log rotation is not needed, to prevent installing unnecessary dependencies.

Description Davide Cavalca 2021-08-10 16:38:23 UTC
rsyslog currently Requires: logrotate and installs a logrotate config as part of the main rsyslog package. This is fine in most cases, but it isn't ideal for minimal environments (that may not need/want logrotate) and for environments that use a different system (or a different logrotate configuration) for rotating logs (where the default config may conflict or fail). To this end, I'd like to request splitting the logrotate config and its dependency into a rsyslog-logrotate, and adding a Recommends for it to the main rsyslog package. This wouldn't change the default behavior, but it would provide the option to not install the logrotate config if one so desires.

This is the c9s version of https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1992153 which tracks the same request in Fedora.

https://gitlab.com/redhat/centos-stream/rpms/rsyslog/-/merge_requests/5 is the related MR for this.

Comment 2 Davide Cavalca 2021-10-26 16:22:48 UTC
Any update on this? I see the corresponding Fedora change was merged and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1992153 was closed. I specifically care about CentOS Stream 9, but this issue impacts RHEL as well, so it'd be great to get it merged in time for the RHEL 9 release. Thanks!

Hello,

I am not against the idea to introduce such subpackage in rhel-9. The soonest version where it's possible to do this is 9.0 . Thank you for your understanding.

Since the problem described in this bug report should be
resolved in a recent advisory, it has been closed with a
resolution of ERRATA.

For information on the advisory (new packages: rsyslog), and where to find the updated
files, follow the link below.

If the solution does not work for you, open a new bug report.
