Red Hat Satellite engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on Satellite to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs will be migrated starting at the end of May. If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "Satellite project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/SAT-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Brad Buckingham 2021-11-08 23:43:04 UTC
Description of problem:

Today, when a user creates a subscription allocation for Satellite in the Red Hat Customer portal, they select the specific version of Satellite that it will be imported on (e.g. 6.8, 6.9, 6.10). With Satellite 7, the goal is to remove the need to select the .y version and simply have one version (e.g. 7.y or 7) that will support all Satellite 7 versions.

In addition to the Customer Portal modifications, changes are also anticipated to be needed to Satellite to support this; therefore, this bugzilla is to track those changes.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. go to Red Hat Customer Portal and create a subscription allocation for Satellite 7
2. download the manifest
3. import the manifest in the Satellite

Expected results:

The manifest successfully imports.
Red Hat repositories may be enabled and synced from Red Hat.
Red Hat content may be managed and consumed by clients.

Comment 2 Brad Buckingham 2021-11-08 23:50:05 UTC
In Satellite 6.8, there were a couple of bugzillas to introduce changes in how Satellite managed the versions. These areas may be impacted as part of the solution to this one.

This included:
   bug 1847645
   bug 1823905

Comment 3 Lucy Fu 2021-12-07 18:18:45 UTC
Created redmine issue https://projects.theforeman.org/issues/34102 from this bug

Comment 7 Brad Buckingham 2022-05-05 18:54:48 UTC
Note: the changes for this bugzilla have been reverted. The behavior described by the RFE will not be available in Satellite 6.11; however, the bugzilla remains to track that the changes that were introduced have been reverted.
