Description Miro Hrončok 2022-04-20 10:36:54 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok).

Your package (redhat-lsb) Fails To Install in Fedora 37:

can't install redhat-lsb-core:
  - nothing provides ncurses-compat-libs(x86-64) needed by redhat-lsb-core-4.1-56.fc36.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-37-x86_64 --disablerepo='*' --enablerepo=local install redhat-lsb-core

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

ncurses-compat-libs was dropped in https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/ncurses/c/e9317e9d5d60bbafccec65f4181e05425db1a13b?branch=rawhide

Comment 2 Miroslav Lichvar 2022-04-20 11:19:20 UTC
I'm sorry for the trouble. I didn't see any dependencies on libtinfo.so.5, or libncurses/w.so.5 in the repository.

The dependency of redhat-lsb on ncurses-compat-libs was added for bug #1392972 long time ago. Is it still needed?

Comment 3 Florian Weimer 2022-04-20 12:05:36 UTC
I think it's time to drop redhat-lsb from Fedora. The package is misleading at best on aarch64 or ppc64le because there is no LSB.

I believe some of the subpackages have been used to install a vaguely-defined collection of packages. It should be possible to rely on installation defaults instead, or use fine-grained dependencies to pull in the packages which are actually needed.

> I think it's time to drop redhat-lsb from Fedora.

I agree. As a standard, it no longer functions.

Comment 5 Ondrej Vasik 2022-04-20 12:48:24 UTC
Reassigning to Lukas. If he agrees with dropping redhat-lsb from Fedora, it is probably way to go.

Comment 6 Sergio Basto 2022-04-22 16:38:35 UTC
I prefer that someone update it to 5.0 see bug #1298936

Hello,

This is the first reminder (step 3 from https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/#_package_removal_for_long_standing_ftbfs_and_fti_bugs).

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

Comment 10 Miro Hrončok 2022-06-21 14:30:52 UTC
This package has been orphaned.

You can pick it up at https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/redhat-lsb by clicking button "Take". If nobody picks it up, it will be retired and removed from a distribution.

Comment 11 Sergio Basto 2022-06-21 14:46:22 UTC
took it

Comment 12 Parag Nemade 2022-06-25 08:11:54 UTC
I use Epson printer and I need its epson-printer-utility rpm to work on Fedora which is provided by Epson company. Due to removal of ncurses-compat-libs, it become difficult for me to install epson-printer-utility as redhat-lsb-core requires it.

Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically. If you feel that this output has mistakes, please contact me via email (mhroncok).

All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 37.

Thanks for taking care of it!
