Description Thomas Stephen Lee 2022-05-21 07:05:01 UTC
Please branch and build redhat-lsb in epel9.

Comment 1 Ondrej Vasik 2022-05-26 12:27:56 UTC
redhat-lsb branching and building for RHEL 9 is tricky. We can't satisfy the needs for redhat-lsb package as some of the (old 4.1) LSB requirements are no longer part of the release. And new LSB 5.0 is not yet even part of the Fedora release. Therefore, more work than just branch and build would be needed - like redoing whole redhat-lsb package in order to comply with LSB 5.0 specifications.

I downloaded the following from Fedora 36

redhat-lsb-4.1-56.fc36.src.rpm
mailx-12.5-41.fc36.src.rpm
ncurses-6.2-9.20210508.fc36.src.rpm
star-1.6-6.fc36.src.rpm

, made EL 9 RPMS and installed on RHEL 9.

It is working fine.

Kindly do the same for now.

Comment 3 Thomas Stephen Lee 2022-06-29 11:58:03 UTC
should I open new bugs for mailx, ncurses, and star?

Comment 4 Ben Cotton 2022-08-09 13:16:30 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 37 development cycle.
Changing version to 37.

If all you need is the lsb_release command (which seems to be what most people are looking for), I suggest switching to the distro command (from python3-distro). It's a modern replacement without the technical debt of LSB, and it's already included in RHEL8 and RHEL9.

Comment 7 Thomas Stephen Lee 2023-02-06 06:41:30 UTC
Sorry.
I should have mentioned that this request is for LSB version 4,
currently in Fedora and RHEL 7/8 but not RHEL 9.
LSB version 5 is not in both Fedora or RHEL.
