Description Thomas Stephen Lee 2022-08-16 08:47:19 UTC
Kindly start work on LSB 5.0 for Fedora.

Comment 1 Florian Weimer 2022-08-16 09:53:56 UTC
LSB 5.0 is from 2015 and incompatible with Fedora. In particular, there is no AArch64 support in LSB 5.0, and it would be a significant effort to develop an SDK that can target LSB 5.0 for the remaining architectures. Security support for the obsolete libraries that are part of LSB 5.0 is also a burden, and this work would not benefit users of Fedora applications.

Comment 2 Thomas Stephen Lee 2023-02-04 22:53:52 UTC
If Fedora made an effort, others like Debian would follow.
Also, Linux Foundation can be encouraged to release a new minor/major version of LSB addressing current roadblocks.

> LSB version 5 is not in both Fedora or RHEL.

First let move all discussion of LSB (4 or 5) for here

more easy remove the requirements from https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/redhat-lsb/blob/rawhide/f/redhat-lsb.spec#_242

> If of any help, I just needed redhat-lsb-core on RHEL 9

yes , only /usr/bin/lsb_release is needed , the rest is one concept, having this and having that

Comment 8 Ben Cotton 2023-02-07 14:53:42 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 38 development cycle.
Changing version to 38.
