trying to paste text in gnome terminal using mouse middle button crashes the xserver

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-server-Xwayland-21.1.4-fc35.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. copy text (or try to copy) from web browser
2. try to paste text in gnome terminal using mouse middle button
3. xerver crashes and shows a blank screen with an '_' text cursor

Actual results:
xerver crash

Expected results:
should not crash xserver

Additional info:
* also, ctrl+shift+v does not paste text in gnome terminal
* also, trying to paste text using the Gnome Teminal rightclick menu option "Paste" also crashes xserver
* also, I'm using Lenovo T480s and this problem started with recent dnf update as of creation date of this BZ report

Comment 1 Jens 2022-07-24 21:01:46 UTC
I am affected by the same issue. The issue also started with a recent dnf update. I currently assume it was the update of gnome-shell 41.7-1.fc35.x86_64 and mutter 41.7-1.fc35.x86_64 to 41.8.1-1.fc35.x86_64 and 41.8-1.fc35.x86_64, respectively. I downgraded both packages to 41.0-4.fc35.x86_64, as it was the newest package available in the repo, and the issue was gone.

Other application combinations are affected by this issue as well. If I try to copy login information from keepassx0 to firefox it does not work and leads to a crash of the wayland session.

Seems to be related to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2110041

Comment 3 Olivier Fourdan 2022-07-25 10:02:53 UTC
FWIW, Xwayland is just a Wayland client and is unlikely to take down your entire session - BEsides, Xwayland is not involved in copy/pasting, toher than implementing the mechanisms that clients use such as X11 properties and events.

All that to say it is unlikely an issue with Xwayland - Before we can investigate further, can you please provide the journalctl logs around the time of the event?

Comment 4 Adhidarma Hadiwinoto 2022-07-27 23:44:08 UTC
I've experienced crash when doing copy/paste if there is application running on xwayland. But as #3 mention, it should not becaused of xwayland. And as #2 said, it is related to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2110041. Should be marked as duplicate bug

Comment 5 Olivier Fourdan 2022-07-28 06:22:50 UTC
Right, I agree, it's clearly a duplicate, not need to wait for the logs.
