RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Neal Gompa 2022-08-03 21:07:00 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #2016794 +++

Description of problem:
The grave accent ` is inappropriately ligatured when using Red Hat Mono -- it becomes attached to the following character in gVim, gEdit, Firefox and possibly other applications. This makes editing TeX difficult in this font.

This behavior is not observed with Source Code Pro, or in Gnome Terminal.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
redhat-mono-fonts-4.0.1-3.el9

Additional info:

This bug is fixed in version 4.0.3, just released: https://github.com/RedHatOfficial/RedHatFont/releases/tag/4.0.3

Comment 2 Jens Petersen 2022-08-10 05:55:06 UTC
(I think the original bug report was confusing/badly worded:
IIUC this is about the rendering of the backtick (open quote) symbol,
not about grave accent, right?)

Comment 3 Troy Dawson 2022-08-10 13:20:48 UTC
That does make more sense.
Now that it's worded that way, I know what you are talking about because I've seen it.
I'm glad that I now know it is a bug because I was just about ready to fix someones documentation.

(Note: none of that is sarcasm. I really was about to fix someones documentation because of this.)

Comment 4 Akira TAGOH 2022-08-18 07:49:16 UTC
Current packages has some problems.

1. containing duplicate fonts
2. providing non-variable and variable fonts in one place. this is also functionally duplicate. we should have separate packages for them.
3. variable fonts is apparently buggy. it causes a crash on gnome-terminal say. although it can be worked around by fontconfig config.

I file a separate bug for that.
