Description Carl George 🤠 2023-05-09 01:35:01 UTC
Description of problem:
ara does not install from EPEL 8.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ara-1.5.3-1.el8

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. dnf install ara

Actual results:
Error:
Problem: package ara-1.5.3-1.el8.noarch requires python3-ara = 1.5.3-1.el8, but none of the providers can be installed
  - conflicting requests
  - nothing provides python3-cliff needed by python3-ara-1.5.3-1.el8.noarch
  - nothing provides python3.6dist(cliff) needed by python3-ara-1.5.3-1.el8.noarch

Expected results:
successful installation

Additional info:
If you can't get the dependencies added to make this installable, please retire it from epel8. Having an uninstallable package is worse than the package not being present at all.

Do you have interest in resolving this or would it be better to just retire the package from EPEL 8? Adding python3-cliff is going to require adding two other packages. Not an insurmountable task, but it would be quicker to just remove this uninstallable package from the repos.

Hi,

Once upon a time I got stumped on an epel8 issue and it just kind of remained stuck there, sorry: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/ara/pull-request/24

I am able to continue maintaining the package for fedora but I do not have the bandwidth (or use case at this time) for the package in epel8 and beyond.
I do not object to retiring the package but if someone wants to do the work that is fine too.

Comment 3 Carl George 🤠 2025-04-11 07:43:23 UTC
Let's retire the epel8 branch then, if someone wants to pick this back up the branch can be unretired.
