Description Fedora Fails To Install 2023-07-05 19:19:56 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

Your package (python-qemu-qmp) Fails To Install in Fedora 39:

can't install python3-qemu-qmp:
  - nothing provides python(abi) = 3.11 needed by python3-qemu-qmp-0.0.2-2.fc38.noarch

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-39-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install python3-qemu-qmp

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

Comment 1 John Snow 2023-07-05 22:12:15 UTC
OK, Max G submitted some patches upstream to move the package onto the new packaging paradigm. There are a few hiccups left testing support for Python 3.12+, but I plan to cut a new version as soon as we turn all of the lights green.

I don't understand the error message here, though: "3.11 needed by python3-qemu-qmp-0.0.2-2.fc38.noarch" -- is this because of using the legacy package installer?

Either way, ACK that there's a problem and I am working on it.

Comment 2 John Snow 2023-07-10 18:16:42 UTC
Pushed an upstream release: https://pypi.org/project/qemu.qmp/0.0.3/

I just have to wrestle with the downstream process to update the downstream package.

Also, I notice that PyPI removed support for GPG signatures, so I guess I'll have to remove that from the specfile, too...

Comment 3 John Snow 2023-07-10 20:25:36 UTC
Updated in a local branch, but still failing the build for the testing dep;

```
DEBUG util.py:442:    - nothing provides python3.11dist(setuptools) needed by python3-avocado-92.0-2.fc38.noarch from build
DEBUG util.py:442:    - nothing provides python(abi) = 3.11 needed by python3-avocado-92.0-2.fc38.noarch from build
```

might now depend on https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2220126

If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 39.

Thanks for taking care of it!
