Description Fedora Fails To Install 2024-01-22 10:50:56 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

Your package (vtk) Fails To Install in Fedora 40:

can't install vtk-testing:
  - nothing provides libboost_serialization.so.1.81.0()(64bit) needed by vtk-testing-9.2.6-11.fc40.x86_64

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-40-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install vtk-testing

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

The rebuild for the new boost failed to install a BuildRequires on i686:

DEBUG util.py:461: No match for argument: python3-mpi4py-mpich

Comment 2 Orion Poplawski 2024-01-23 05:40:44 UTC
I'm very tempted to excludearch i686 for vtk entirely, but I suspect that may be a bit harsh at this point. Probably will just disable MPI on i686 for now.

Comment 3 Orion Poplawski 2024-01-25 04:45:49 UTC
Turns out that it seems to build fine if I simply drop the python3-mpi4py-mpich dep on i686. Building now.

Comment 4 Orion Poplawski 2024-01-26 00:44:14 UTC
But of course the gcc update seems to have broken LTO for vtk on x86_64 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2260416). I guess I'll disable that for now.

Comment 5 Orion Poplawski 2024-01-26 00:46:46 UTC
Hmm, maybe not as LTO is already disabled:

# State Nov 11 2020, LTO causes
# TestXMLHyperTreeGridIO.cxx.o (symbol from plugin): undefined reference to symbol
# '_ZZNSt8__detail18__to_chars_10_implIjEEvPcjT_E8__digits@@LLVM_11'
%global _lto_cflags %{nil}

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 40 development cycle.
Changing version to 40.
