Hi,

Thank you Jens Peterson. Actually, this bug affects me too since I use Tifinagh glyphs in my password manager. Without Tifinagh, when I copy and paste, it doesn't recognize my passwords.

Hope these fonts will be added.

fontconfig doesn't have orth files for them.

fontconfig has cu.orth but apparently it isn't what expected here. So missing this one too.

I don't see any Tofu in Firefox flatpak from flathub.

Current orth file is based on Old Church Slavonic. they are completely assigned to the different code point. but ISO639 code includes both. There are no way to distinct both in ISO639 code. If cu.orth has both code range, fontconfig will mark a font as supported only when a font is covered for both code range then.

I tried: they get the extra coverage via GNU Free Fonts and DejaVu.

Tamazight seems different to Tifinagh?  Not sure if Noto has coverage for it?

Let me explain a bit something about "Tamazight".

If we have to compare the word "Tamazight" as a group of languages, we could compare it with the "North Germanic languages". Let me explain more.
The North Germanic languages or "the scandinavian languages", code `ISO-639-5 gmq`, is a group of languages that includes : Danish, Norweigian, Swedish etc.

Tamazight is a "North african group of languages", `code ISO-639-5 ber`. In this Tamazight group we can find Kabyle, Chawiya, Tarifit and even a langue itself called "Central Atlas Tamazight in Morocco".

All of them are called "Amazigh languages" but in a corpus matter, some of them have more available resources than others. And among the more advanced in matter of corpus availability : Kabyle language `kab` comes in the first position as there are many scientific and litterature written in kabyle and of course Kabyle is written in a standardized latin script whereas, in Morocco, some Tamazight or Amazigh languages choose to use the Tifinagh script.

In Algeria, we use the Tifinagh script as a heritage, we use it symbolically in administration, schools etc but the most dominant standard is latin style invented by the linguist : Mouloud Mammeri and since then adopted widely even among the kabyle diaspora worldwide.

Officially, [the political part) governements prefer to use the [group name Tamazight] to not exclude all the variants and Berber / Amazigh minorities, they use the word "Tamazight" as a shortcut to include them all in one group. But technically, we know that every language has its own specifications, script way of writing things, grammar etc.

So yes Tifinagh is a **script**, not **a language**, we can compare this with other scripts in Japan, for example.

Noto by Google, built a **Noto Tifinagh** few years ago : https://fonts.google.com/noto/specimen/Noto+Sans+Tifinagh

If you go to their website, you'll see that they included even **Kabyle in Tifinagh**, as I mentionned before, because we use the Tifinagh script from time to time, to write something or ton express something in our culture.

I'll be happy to give you further explanation if needed.

Trying to unconfuse myself: okay so Akira did actually add default-fonts-kab, thanks,
however only langpacks-fonts-kab --recommends google-noto-sans-tifinagh-fonts.

That may be fine, but I still feel we should try to pull in google-noto-sans-tifinagh-fonts by default somehow.

I wonder if it would make more sense though to rename default-fonts-kab to default-fonts-ber (Berber) etc though.
Berber seems more general than Kabyle, right.

fontconfig has both ber-dz and ber-ma as well as kab though, ber-dz is same to kab but ber-ma has different coverage.
Taking a look back on the introduction of default-fonts-kab, that was maybe wrong because Noto Sans Tifinagh* has ber-ma coverage only:
