Same error with Fedora 42 iso. Unable to complete install with 42 or 43.
Target system is a Thinkpad T60 type 2623-D6U Core 2 Duo T2400 @ 1.83GHz w SXGA+ 14.1" screen w ATI Mobility Radeon X1300 M52 graphics. First announced January 2006. This particular example probably from 2007. Installed Fedora 28 and then 35 without problems.

Runs nicely, but now needs a new (3rd? time) battery for mobility.

I suspect that it is a graphics problem as I can only get to (and past) the partition selection page using the Troubleshooting 'reduced' graphics mode. Attempting to install using the default causes the image to fail at that page.

Yeah, I also had same experience. I was Windows user for decade and recently decided to switch to Linux community didn't expected this much of troubles for simple installation damm.
It's not your system's fault, it just Fedora.
I have tested on my spare machine multiple times for like weeks. Some of Fedora versions works and some don't for installation(same goes for other spins). This bug has been reported like 100x times by community from previous releases. Each time they says they have fixed this issue but it keeps coming back and whats worst is that they freeze those ISOs on release date meaning new user if ever try to get into Linux, they won't be able to. No proper guide on their official site to get latest ISOs just in case.
I even tried all their variant of latest Fedora same thing

I dont know why fedora tester, test their ISO on Virtual Machines rather than actual spare systems. Its like testing Android/Apple apps on emulators, from development I know there is huge difference when it actually gets to running system
