I am an new(even that is too much)user of linux. And so I am not so familiar with this stuff. But perhaps these additional comments may help you to analyse my problem. I was installing Linux on my system in a custom system because I also works with Windows Millenium and Windows 2000(this a NT-like OS!). Before the installing was killed I had chosen the packages to install (I choose for all packages; the installing program asked me to be patient because time was needed for installing the programs. And then it wents wrong and the install- program said to me that an exceptional condition has occured. This is mostly a bug and I must report this to Bugzilla and so here I am kindly regards, Dolf Wind
Thanks for your bug report. It looks like your bug is a duplicate of bug #19040 and bug #18782. There is an updates disk available at: ftp://people.redhat.com/ewt/mountupd.img.gz Here's the basic steps to using the updates disk. 1. Download mount.img.gz from ftp://people.redhat.com/ewt 2. Uncompress the file with the following command: gunzip mountupd.img.gz This will create a file called mountupd.img 3. Dump the data in the image file to a floppy. Put a floppy in your drive and issue the following command: dd if=mountupd.img of=/dev/fd0 bs=1440k 4. Retry the installation. When the first bootup screen appears, type in 'linux updates'. The installer will prompt you later for the updates disk. Put it in, click 'OK', and things should go smoothly from there. Please let me know if you need more help getting around this bug. The bug has been fixed in our internal builds, so future releases will not have this bug. Thanks again for your report.

Dear Mr./Mrs. As you said in your email of Tue Apr 3 I made an udate disk with the file mountupd.img and I started again the installation of linux. And I did as you wrote; when first bootup screen appears, type in: 'linux updates'tec. But while Installing Packages (I choose again for every thing), after choosing the packages, formatting the hard disk and then while transferring install image to hard drive my computer "hangs". I tried it two and every time the computer "hangs". I have to put down the computer and restart so I can use my computer. Help me! Kindly regards, Dolf Wind
When the computer hangs, try pressing Ctrl-Alt-F3 and Ctrl-Alt-F4. This should display the debug messages that the installer prints out. Do you see anything that looks like error messages? Also, have you tried running the installer in text mode? I'm curious if this hanging appears in text mode. You can use text mode by typing 'linux updates text' at the boot up screen. This will run the installer in text mode while also using the updates disk. Also, are you doing an install from a cdrom?
Dear Mrs/Mr I made a mistake myself too and in the textmode I got the answer namely I had too less memory-capacity for the packages I asked and in graphic mode there was no message! I used my cdrom as installer Thanks for help me! Dolf Wind Netherlands
