Description of problem: With the latest update of the gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger package, GNOME gives an error related to settings not being able to load and the volume applet fails to load. Removing the package or downgrading to the previous release solves the issue. I will re-update and post the various error messages. The schroedinger package does not seem to cause any problems; only the gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger package. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger-1.0.0-1.fc9.i386 How reproducible: It gives errors every time I login or try to load gnome-sound-properties or other sound applications (such as pavucontrol). Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update to gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger-1.0.0-1.fc9.i386 2. Log in 3. Load gnome-sound-properties or pavucontrol Actual results: Gives error related to the GStreamer Schroedinger plugin and fails to load. Expected results: Load properly without error and be able to have the latest Schroedinger packages. Additional info: I will post a couple screenshots and some error messages shortly.
Created attachment 295719 [details] Error that pops up when I first log in. This is the error that appears when I first log in after updating gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger.
Created attachment 295720 [details] This also pops up right after I log in. Another error I receive right after logging in. Attempting to reload just results in another error.
Created attachment 295721 [details] Error when trying to load pavucontrol. This is the error I receive if I try to load pavucontrol. Running from a terminal gave me no additional information.
Finally, when attempting to load gnome-sound-properties from a terminal, I receive this message: [gideon@gidux-laptop-devel ~]$ gnome-sound-properties ERROR: Caught a segmentation fault while loading plugin file: /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstschro.so Please either: - remove it and restart. - run with --gst-disable-segtrap and debug. Error re-scanning registry , child terminated by signal Run 'gnome-sound-properties --help' to see a full list of available command line options. This is how I discovered my problems were due to the latest gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger package. Removing it removed my problems, and I did not have to remove the schroedinger package.
I now receive the error even with the previous version, and I also now receive an error related to /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/libgstaudioresample.so when I don't have the gstreamer-plugins-schroedinger package installer. I am running the latest gstreamer packages (0.10.17-2.fc9). I fear this may be a problem with gstreamer and not just the shroedinger packages. Please let me know if there's anything else I can test. Right now, I'm without audio and programs like Rhythmbox are crashing (kind of a downer, as I like my music).
I tried downgrading to the 0.10.17-1.fc9 packages, but things are still broken. I started receiving the errors upon login again, until I updated back to the latest. Now I don't receive errors at login, but I cannot play any sound.
Are you sure this isn't a problem with pulseaudio? Was that upgraded at the same time? Are non-gstreamer applications able to play sound? You might try playing a .wav file with "aplay" to see if that works...
Actually, looks like this might be a problem with liboil, which was upgraded at the same time as schroedinger. See bug 434654. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 434654 ***
