Description of problem: I can't find the iwl5000-firmware for Fedora 10 (rawhide). When you install Fedora 10 alpha or boot on the LiveCD, the firmware iwlwifi-5000 failed to load with reason -2 (seems it means the file is missing in /lib/firmware). So wireless connections are impossible :( Package iwl5000-firmware is listed here in the bugzilla but I can't find it in any repository. (btw koji seems down) How reproducible: static Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install/boot Fedora 10 alpha 2. Wifi doesn't work 3. dmesg|grep iwlwifi-5000 Actual results: The kernel can't find the iwlwifi-5000.ucode in /lib/firmware. Expected results: Maybe this package/firmware should be provided in the liveCD and in the repositories. Additional info: Manual install of the firmware seems to make kernel oops when NetworkManager start with kernel-2.6.27-0.244.rc2.git1.fc10.x86_64.
There is two different problems from this bug report. - On the first side, iwl5000-firmware has been recently introducted in the Fedora repositories but is currently available only in F-8 testing: ftp://ftp.free.fr/mirrors/fedora.redhat.com/fedora/linux/updates/testing/8/i386/iwl5000-firmware-5.4.A.11-2.noarch.rpm (This is a package without a dist tag, so you can use this one for Rawhide) It will hit the Rawhide repository on next push according to bodhi https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/F8/FEDORA-2008-7122 So I will close this bug as a duplicate of the review request on bug 455032 - On the other side. you have experienced a kernel oops. This kind of problem have to be reported to the kernel along with the relevant information. Unless you have already done that, please submit a bug against the kernel. Thx for your report.
