patch to spec to add alias (1.16 KB, application/octet-stream)

Description Caolan McNamara 2008-09-02 11:15:07 UTC
Created attachment 315529 [details]
patch to spec to add alias

Description of problem:

Install hunspell-bn and run openoffice.org writer
openoffice.org will only show "Bengali (India)" with the spell-checking available mark beside it, but "Bengali (Bangladesh)" will show none.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
hunspell-bn-2005072602.fc9.noarch

I suspect, though I freely admit I know nothing about the language, that the dictionary is equally good for both Bengali speaking locales. Patch attached so add an alias for bn_BD, similar to what we do for other locales e.g. the en_IE dictionary alias to en_GB

Fixed in rawhide hunspell-bn-20050726-3.fc10

The hunspell-bn version is extremely old and was created when we did not have two translation locales.

hunspell-bn-BD has a different dictionary now. Please refer to the following documentation:

http://ankur.org.bd/wiki/Documentation#OpenOffice.org

cc-ing Jamil (the bn-BD coordinator)

Have not reopened the bug. should I?

Runa,
Thanks for this information. I was not knowing this. Anyway as fixed package is in rawhide already, I will release one more build for hunspell-bn and will revert back changes and will add new hunspell-bn-BD package in fedora.

Should that http://www.ankur.org.bd/downloads/spell_check/hunspell/hunspell-bn-BD-0.02.tar.bz2 be used as the new Bengali dictionary for *both* bn_IN and bn_BD ? or is it truly specific to bn_BD ?

Otherwise, if there should be different bn_BD and bn_IN dictionaries, FWIW typically in the other hunspell dictionaries, e.g. the hunspell-en and hunspell-pt ones where there are different locales for similar languages I've kept a single hunspell-XX rpm that contains all the variants to keep things fairly simple.

Caolan,
I am not yet aware about the amount of deviation of the bn-BD dictionary from the original bn dictionary. However, not unlike the en-US and en-GB locales, there are non-standard spellings used to write the language in the relevant geographical areas, which could create ambiguity for both locales. I'll let Jamil to ping back about the bn-BD dictionary. The hunspell-bn dictionary has not seen much action for a long time.

Putting all variants in one hunspell-XX rpm sounds ok to me.

Actually hunspell-bn-BD-0.02.tar.bz2 contains spelling fixes, mainly for Khanda-Ta, over that old hunspell-bn one. IIRC number of entries are same. IMO this can be used for both bn_BD and bn_IN.

+1 for hunspell-XX rpm
