Doc Text:
A change was introduced in the RHEL 5.3 DLM kernel code to improve the interface and performance of the supporting DLM plock component. This change introduces and incompatibility with the 5.2 cluster userspace components contained in the cman package. In order to run the 5.3 beta kernel in a cluster environment, the user must update the cman package to 5.3 beta. This will be resolved in the 5.3 GA release.

Description David Teigland 2008-09-15 16:31:29 UTC
Description of problem:

gfs_controld in RHEL5.2 and earlier does not work with the gfs/dlm
plock code in RHEL5.3 (although the new gfs_controld in 5.3 is
backward compatible with earlier gfs/dlm.) This is caused by moving
the plock code from gfs2 into dlm in bug 450138.

We can add a patch to make the gfs/dlm plock code in 5.3 compatible
with the earlier versions of gfs_controld. The patch would require
a new dlm symbol added to the kabi whitelist.

The patch was scratch built here,

and tested with old and new versions of gfs_controld.

Verified plocks work on a RHEL 5.3 node which has joined a RHEL 5.3 cluster using tree RHEL5.3-Server-20081105.1.
