Description Mads Kiilerich 2008-10-24 14:42:11 UTC
Description of problem:

When glxgears is run with Desktop Effects enabled then the gears are shown even when they should be hidden by other windows.

Without Desktop Effects then glxgears seems to work correctly.

So it seems to be an issue with compiz, but it could also be the X server or GL or ...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

compiz-0.7.6-15.fc10.i386
mesa-dri-drivers-7.2-0.13.fc10.i386
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-31.fc10.i386
kernel-2.6.27.3-39.fc10.i686 booted with nomodeset

01:00.1 Display controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV516 [Radeon X1300 Pro] (Secondary)

Additional info:

Same system and same system and session as in Bug 468389, where dmesg and X log can be found if relevant.

Comment 1 Mads Kiilerich 2008-10-28 18:42:00 UTC
Problem remains with
kernel-2.6.27.4-58.fc10.i686
mesa-dri-drivers-7.2-0.13.fc10.i386
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-34.fc10.i386

Thanks for the bug report. We have reviewed the information you have provided above, and there is some additional information we require that will be helpful in our diagnosis of this issue.

Please attach your X server config file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.*.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the bugzilla file attachment link below.

Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf whatsoever and let X11 autodetect your display and video card? Attach to this bug /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt as well, please.

We will review this issue again once you've had a chance to attach this information.

Thanks in advance.

As decribed above the X log is at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=321414
and dmesg at
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=321413

No xorg.conf.

Do you need newer logs? (Running radeonhd right now)

Comment 4 Matěj Cepl 2008-10-28 23:05:05 UTC
Yes, please, upgrade to the latest version of Rawhide and reattach /var/log/Xorg.*.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf (if you have any). I think ~/.xsession-errors might be interesting as well.

Thank you

.xsession-errors - AFAICS nothing interesting here

This - and the X log above - was with

kernel-2.6.27.4-58.fc10.i686
mesa-dri-drivers-7.2-0.13.fc10.i386
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.9.0-34.fc10.i386
compiz-0.7.6-17.fc10.i386

See also bug 468975

At one point it worked correctly, and the gears followed its wobling window while spinning. But I don't know what caused it and I wasn't able to reproduce it.

airlied: thats not going to get fixed until DRI2 works.
airlied: I think there is a generic bug for that.
kiilerix1: but that should only be a display bug - not causing instability?
airlied: yup shouldnt cause any problems just looks crappy.

airlied: compiz + modesetting is going to be slow for a month or two.

me:
I think the generic DRI2 bug for "redirected direct rendering" is Bug 222262 - the output I see is like the DON'T on http://hoegsberg.blogspot.com/2007/08/redirected-direct-rendering.html
